Pass It On

For starters, take a look at this little video: click here!

I've always liked that commercial, the concept behind it is so full of hope.  And I think it is also a nice little statement about how generally people are inherently good.  I am a complete believer in that.  After all D&C 84:46 says that the Spirit gives light to EVERY man that comes into the world.

Isn't it great to see people care about others, do a good deed and just show a little kindness?

Story Time

Last weekend was my teams first set of away games.  Spending so much time together lets you get to know each other way better.  But this experience was for sure my favorite.

We were eating breakfast at this bagel shop, so we're sitting there eating when 4 of my teammates start to notice this man who is sitting at a table outside.  They had watched as some random person had bought this man a sandwich and just set it down at his table as they walked away.  So here he is (we'll call him Frank) just sitting there all by himself with his sandwich.  It was pretty clear he was homeless probably, and he had a crutch next to his chair.  So these teammates of mine decide that with Frank eating that sandwich he is probably getting thirsty.  One girl hadn't really had her orange juice so they grabbed a new straw, had it all ready to go, planning to just give it to him on our way out.

Then, I notice that Frank is getting up to leave.  I say to the girls "hey he's getting up" look back again and he is walking away! "Guys he is leaving!" Well the girl who it had been her orange juice wasn't sitting there at the moment and the other 3 were like looking at each other like "should I take it, you, i donno?".  Problem solved.  I get up "gimme the orange juice" and I head outside.  By this time Frank is like 20-25 feet away, just walking, well really hobbling with that one crutch.  One of his legs was really crippled and totally out of alignment, causing his foot to drag really bad.  So I call to him, offer the orange juice, he of course accepts and asks me to set it on the table.  I set it down and as I walk away I simply say "alright well I hope you have a great day" his kind and fulfilling response was "O thank you so much, this makes it perfect!"

As I went back into this bagel shop I felt so good inside.  And I couldn't wait to tell me teammates how grateful this man had been.  Watching there reactions was wonderful!  Really it hadn't been my observation or idea or anything at all.  I felt so grateful to be around people who were aware of that and were willing to take action.  I think we could all do more of that.

Afterwards a teammate also made a comment about how really we take so much for granted.  There we are on this soccer trip, free trip free food we're going to school for free.  Just in general our circumstances are great! And yet we still find ways to complain.  We really just forget and take for granted how good we have it.

So today I challenge you to pass along some kindness, and to remember how blessed you are!

What a great commercial! I've never seen it. I love the whole concept, & I completely agree with you - people ARE generally good because God created us. God's full of goodness; everyone has the light of Christ in them... some people just don't know how to find it, but it's always there. Thanks Ellen! Great post.
