The Literally Written Word

I'm in this communications class, where we pretend to learn, well actually most don't even bother to pretend. But one small morsel of information related to the class that I did pick up was about communication channels. yay sounds fun right? well I've decided that I have a top 3 for these channel things. Welcome to the countdown

Number 3strong>>: Skype/video conferencing

This is a new found love. Basically its like talking on the phone, only about 18 millions times better. Why such a large multiplication of goodness? Because you can see the other persons FACE! and they can see yours of course. So its like talking in person(almost) or atleast as close as you can get without actually being in person. But really its awesome! My mom loves it, she says its how she will stay connected with her grandkids who live far away - i find this to be a brilliant plan! I also like it for that reason, especially when my nephew says "grandmas here! grandmas here!" when she comes up on the screen. yay for that. I like talking to my brother all the way out in oklahoma, and for some reason I haven't talked to val via video conference yet, but believe me i WILL.(because it is so incredibly wonderful) And last of all I will be strongly encouraging certain people to get into the skype world in less than 4 months when I move away to school. - yes big linds that means you :)

Numero Dos: The literal written word
This was the inspiration for this post. The literal written word makes my soul sing, - even if it doesn't really say that much. Its amazing how this is done. Somehow between the process of someone taking a pen, pencil, crayon or whatever writing utensil and putting their thoughts down, to the time when you read those awesome words something wonderful happens! hence the soul singing. Like today when I was on my way home my mom informed me that I had a letter waiting at home. excitement. couldn't get home fast enough, which was rough since I was in like fillmore or some other remote southern utah town at the time. But then I got home and not only did I have a letter but there were TWO! even better. plus they're from missionaries, - so fun to hear from. This kind of written word is really special because it comes through the mail - which also has the magical effect (affect?) somehow when a message is received through the u.s. postal service is is even better. But also any kind of card/letter/note is so bueno! earlier this week I was driving home from school, and on good ol 59th going over the train tracks I realize there is this awesome folded notebook paper with my name on it under my wiper! lets just say i had to be extra careful because i was seriously scared it would fly away while i was en route to my house. but that little note made my day! so much so that the next day i decided to continue on the goodness so i put some written word under someone else's wiper! Last of all on the written word; i have a new found love for making cards. and for some reason especially cards that are random, that i give to people i love and what not for no big special reason other than that i love them. which i wish i did more of. but part of why the written word is so great in all seriousness is because it takes more effort. It isn't as convenient as a text or something like that. You don't just write a letter by accident right? i think that people are more likely to put down their true thoughts when its in writing, it can be a way cool thing. basically i'm a big fan.

BIG NUMERO UNO!: in person (obviously)

We all know that in person is the greatest, so really theres no need to elaborate. I just couldn't leave it out of the top three even though it was obvious, that would just be dumb. haha DUMB

So communicate; good things happen when you do :-)

I LOVE this post!! I agree 100%! There is definitely something special about communication... and I absolutely LOVE the written form! I think part of the reason why it's so valued is that you can keep it forever and reread it over and over! Plus, everyone loves to feel loved... kudos to you for paying forward that note on the windshield! Thanks for the inspiring post! You're great! :)

I agree with this post 10 fold. I love saying that! haha. But i was seriously glad that just straight up talking on the phone was not in the top 3, for some reason i really hate talking on the phone. But i love getting letters, i got one from josh and john the last few days and it is so amazing. Keep it up Ell
